Here lies the remains

John Officer
who departed this life Oct 27th 1835.
This stone is erected by his beloved
wife and grateful and mourning
children in memory of a kind and
loving husband and a dear parent and
a kind friend whose loss they deplore.

On the reverse side of the stone there is the following inscription.

“On what a slender thread of life hang everlasting things”
